Sedum/Succulents ok for tort enclosure?
« on: June 04, 2009, 08:23:02 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm working on adding some plants to my enclosure and I could use some help. I don't want to put anything in there that could cause harm if ingested. I have some variegatum sedum lineare, is that ok to put in there? I read that it could cause irritation? Anyone know anything about it?

And then I was thinking about adding this plant. I'm having a hard time identifying this to see if its ok. I've also made another post on a garden forum to see if anyone knows what this is. It's some kind of cactus/succulent. Any guesses/suggestions?

If anyone knows of other succulents that would work well for my enclosure let me know  :)

Thanks!

Sedums & echiveria are great, good luck keeping them alive because the tortoises love them. There are hundreds too choose from.

Alright guys, so someone just identified the plant for me. It's Euphorbia suzannae and apparently considered poisonous. Thus, i will not be putting it in the enclosure unfortunately. I suck at picking out plants lol I'll have to look in to some more sedum and echivaria, thanks for the suggestion  :)

Are you sure, I have a sedum that looks like a smaller version of that. When in doubt, just say no

I'm almost sure that's what it is. I googled it after someone on the garden forum told me what it was and it looks so similar to what I have. I heard it's really difficult to make an accurate ID on these kinds of things so who knows. I literally spent hours trying to ID it myself without success. I'm going to keep it, just not with the torts lol I think I'm going to order some echeveria or sedum online. The garden centers around my house don't have descriptive labels on anything so it's really hard to find something that will work. Everything is just labeled "succulents and cacti." And none of the workers were able to identify anything for me either :-\ I was able to find one plant that was actually labeled sedum and the name was given thank god. I'm just having an overall difficult time lol

Your garden center might have some sedums in flats of ground cover, They probably also have the tall variety that the tortoises love.
My tortoises aren't crazy about the leafy sedum ground covers, but they like the more suculant ones.
