New to Forum
« on: July 26, 2010, 06:23:33 PM »
Hi everyone!

I'm Tyler, and I'm new to the forum. I just recently joined because my russian tortoise (Miss Daisy) laid 5 eggs. I have learned a lot from reading through the other posts and Joe's site. I'm relatively new to RTs but I have been successfully breeding desert tortoises and several types of aquatic turtles in my outdoor "turtle sanctuary." I just thought I would introduce myself and I will keep everyone posted on how the eggs do. So far they are about a week old. I am really hoping they are viable.

Sure! My Dad, my brother, and I just recently finished building this for my turtles and tortoises. It is still a little bare; I am still in the process of filling it with plants.

The side with the pond. You can’t see it very well, but it isn’t completely done. That’s why the filter is hanging from the ceiling.

I would love to have something like that! I think my husband would freak out if I told him to build that in the back yard. lol

Thanks for all the kind words! It was countless weekends worth of work, but it's worth it to see how much the turtles and tortoises love their home, and to hear how much you guys like it. As for building another one, Gina, my dad might kill me if I suggest something else to build. But he is a general contractor so i think he liked the project.

My husband works construction and loves building things, but I think this is a little bigger than the little home projects he is used to. I'm going to show him when he gets home, maybe I'll get that for my birthday next year (hermes was my present this year)  :)

Nice. Well good luck. Hopefully he builds you one. It wasn't too bad a build because we just worked on the weekends for a few hours at a time. And it is so nice to have a safe place for all of the tortoises. Most days I just go sit out there for a long time just relaxing and watching the turtles and tortoises.

Wow, that is so great. Yeah, I'm sure it is relaxing to just sit there and watch them.

Just curious - do you have any flying predators in your area? Just wondering if they'd be able to fly into the coop. The good thing is, you have a roof on that enclosure, so it makes the turts harder for them to spot from up above....
