grass?
« on: July 27, 2010, 04:43:14 AM »
hey everyone, i planted the RT grazing mix in their new outdoor enclosure and alot of it grew, but this really long type of grass is starting to take over. its on the outside of the enclosure so i dont think its from the seeds i planted. its smooth when i run my finger over it one way but its very rough and prickly the opposite way. i can post a pic later but does anyone know if i should pull it out?

also, i planted some dandelion seeds but i had no luck getting them to grow inside or outside, anyone have any tips/secrets?

Hi Sarah - on the dandelion question, I managed to get a few to sprout outside by completely covering the area with seeds.  On the grass question, I'm sure it won't hurt, but if it's taking over it seems like you might want to pull it out.  Is it doing any good?  Like shade?

ya, it gives lotsa shade so i dont mind it being in there but it feels pretty sharp if i run my finger over it in a certain direction so will it hurt them if they eat it or trample it?

I think they will be fine.  They have tougher skin than we do!! :)

I have that same thing from my tortoise seed planting.. Betty won't eat it unless I pick it first.  She will not eat it off the plant. It does tend to take over, but it is easy to pull up.

okay, thanks guys, that makes me feel better lol. I like that it gives them shade bc it has been very hot lately, so i guess it stays for now  :)

Same with my kids Betty. The redfoot eats anything growing or picked , but the two RT wont touch a plant unless I pick and clean everything first, guess they are just fancy pants that way/
