« on: August 16, 2010, 10:59:34 AM »
Hello, all!

I have a question, I'm getting a russian tortoise in the next few months, and have a question. I saw this online it's called grassland tortoise started kit, it look like to me a pretty good investment. It with a lof of what I need, not everthing but good amount. Here a list of what is comes with...

•"Tortoise Supply" Brand Tortoise Table
•20qt Bag of Cypress Bedding
•Mazuri Tortoise Diet - 2 Pounds
•Zoo Med Light Stand
•Zoo Med 8.5" Clamp Light Fixture
•100W Mercury Vapor Bulb (brand varies with availability)
•Small Food Dish
•Rep Cal Calcium D3 Supplement
•Rep Cal Multivitamin

Plus a tortoise table all for $219.95

The size is Enclosure Footprint: 18" x 28"

Sidewalls : 7" height

My question is if that a big enough space for a junenile tort?

Hi Lilithlee, I am not sure that I like the kit. It contains some stuff that you don't need. You don't need mazuri for a Russian greens are much better for them and if you get the TNT form Joe at carolinapetsupply.com you won't need the repcal supplements. also the size of the enclosure seems small you would be better off with something larger. You don't really need a food dish either you can just use a flat rock or something like that because it will help keep their beak to a good size.

I've been really happy with my Zoo Med Tortoise House.  Check it out here:

Yeah, I agree with Caesar. And you don't need the Calcium with Vit. D. It's actually not recommended to feed them Vit. D because there's a chance of overdosing. It's recommended to provide them with a cuttlebone (only about $2 if you buy the one for birds) and just remove the backing. Torts will chew on it if they need it.
