Mini Roses and Hibiscus
« on: August 17, 2010, 08:54:52 PM »
2 questions:

A. I was at Home Depot the other day and bought a hibiscus plant with dark glossy leaves and red flowers. But some days later, I noticed hibiscus at another store that looked completely different - it's leaves were light-coloured, different shape, and not glossy. I went back to Home Depot and noticed there was a 'Do not consume' sticker on the hibiscus I bought. I don't know the latin name, the label only reads 'Hibiscus'. So, do you guys think this hibiscus is okay? I'm thinking maybe not...because humans can usually eat hibiscus, but if this kind isn't recommended for humans, I should also keep it away from the torts?

B. Are mini roses edible? I bought 2 pots...then saw the 'Do not consume' sign on the label. Yikes. Wondering if this would also apply to torts.

Thanks!

All hibiscus and roses are edible but....

The ones you buy have been treated with insecticides and fertilizers. You need to wait at least a year before using.

The glossy leaves were most like sprayed with a substance to help hold moisture.

For hibiscus its best to row them from seeds.
